"Better treatment" seen needed for endometriosis

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Key-hole surgery to treat endometriosis is associated with good short-term outcomes but has a high reoperation rate in the long run, research suggests. Hysterectomy, on the other hand, while "too radical," is associated with a low reoperation rate, the study team found, and preservation of the ovaries is a "viable option."

Pelvic Prolapse - Evaluating The Effects Of Pelvic Floor Reconstruction On The Outcomes Of Slings

ORLANDO, FL (UroToday.com) - Two different groups evaluated the effects of pelvic floor reconstruction on the outcomes of slings. While the UCLA group showed no evidence of any effect of posterior repair on slings outcomes (Abstract #1300), work from Virginia Mason in Seattle suggested a possible protective effect of anterior repair on sling results (Abstract #1299).

Peyronie's Disease Knowledge And Practice Patterns Assessment: A Survey Of Urologists In The United States

ORLANDO, FL (UroToday.com) - In this presentation, Dr. John Mulhall, et al. examined practice patterns for the treatment of Peyronie's disease (PD) via a 46 point questionnaire sent to US urologists. The questionnaire was returned by 639 urologists of whom 67% were private practice physicians and 33% were from academic centers.

UroToday.com - We recently reported on the workup and treatment of a benign bladder lesion termed pseudosarcomatous fibromyxoid tumor of the bladder. One of goals of the manuscript was the description of conservative surgical treatment of localized bladder lesions, which could be malignant or benign. Benign lesions include leiomyoma, pseudosarcomatous fibromyxoid tumor, among others.
