  • Predicting Which Pediatric Bronchiolitis Patients Can Be Safely Discharged: The study enrolled 1456 subjects; just over half (57%) were discharged from the EDs. In bivariate analyses, many demographic and clinical factors were associated with being discharged. In multivariable analyses, the following factors were associated with discharge from the ED: age of at least 2 months; no prior intubation; a history of eczema; normal respiratory rate; oxygen concentration of at least 94%; lower number of respiratory treatments in the first hour of care; and adequate oral intake. The authors note that the model predicted reasonably well, but it misclassified 17% of the children by predicting that they would be discharged when they were actually admitted. The authors concluded that the proposed model can help clinicians identify patients with bronchiolitis who can be safely discharged from the ED.
